The woman who fainted behind President Barack Obama during his speech defending Obamacare in the Rose Garden Monday is a Type 1 Diabetic and pregnant.

Karmel Allison — according to information from the White House, provided in advance of the president’s speech — is a “Prospective [Affordable Care Act] Beneficiary” and was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of nine.

According to the White House, Allison has remained on the same insurance since her diagnosis “despite constantly rising costs, for fear she would not be able to find a plan that would cover her due to her pre-existing condition.”

“Allison recently began researching her options on CoveredCA and has publically described her experience as finally feeling equal to others, including her young and healthy husband, when it comes to access to coverage,” the White House explained.

According to “A Sweet Life,” a blog for which she is a contributor, Allison is also pregnant.

Her biography at “A Sweet Life” further reveals that Allison was educated at UC Berkeley, lives in San Diego with her husband, works in computational biology at the University of California, San Diego, loves the sunshine, and is “learning to use the active voice when talking about her diabetes.”

“In her spare time, Karmel enjoys people, Milan Kundera, rock climbing, and the pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness,” the bio explains.

Allison did not immediately respond to a request for comment, she did however tweet that she was “ok.”
