Five-time Olympic champion swimmer Ryan Lochte will be out of commission for awhile thanks to an overzealous fan. A teenage girl in Florida ran toward Lochte and attempted to jump into his arms.
Lochte was able to catch the girl, however, both of them toppled onto the curb, causing Lochte to tear his MCL and sprain his ACL, reports USA Today. The official statement from Lochte’s publicist says, “As a result of a freak injury caused by an unexpected fan encounter, Ryan has suffered a torn MCL and an ACL sprain and will be taking a break from training and competition.”
The statement finishes, “His medical team expects him to make a full and speedy recovery and Ryan thanks everyone for their well wishes.”
Lochte is no stranger to bizarre injuries, though.
The brainiac broke his foot in a scooter accident in 2007, tore his meniscus break-dancing in 2009 and strained his ACL in 2011 reaching for a cellphone in the backseat of his car.
