Washington Post sucks up to Jeff Bezos

So that didn’t take too long.

The Washington Post’s Michael Cavna gives “Alpha House” a rave review today, which is the first original series from Amazon Studios. Both Amazon and The Washington Post are owned by Jeff Bezos.

It’s not an obvious ass kissing right away. The headline is pretty neutral as sucking up goes:

With Amazon’s ‘Alpha House,’ Garry Trudeau again trains his cross-hairs on D.C.

The praise comes later. As both actor and director, Clark Johnson brings “depth and swagger,” writes Cavna.

Elsewhere: “The moment plays brilliantly. It also demonstrates the show’s core combustible engine: [Garry]  Trudeau’s sly satire married splendidly to Goodman’s nuanced line-readings.”

In another spot in the story, WaPo can’t confirm numbers with Amazon, which seems a little odd, again considering who the owner is. “On set, Gary Trudeau says he has ‘no complaints’ about the budget, which Variety has put at $1 million to $2 million per episode. (Neither Amazon nor the “Alpha” team would confirm numbers.)”

Other publications’ reviews aren’t quite so effusive.

From the Boston Herald: “‘Alpha House’ feels like social studies homework. On a Saturday night.”
