The media can be so ruthless these days.

Last week, HuffPost Hill likened Sen. Robert Burr (R-N.C.) to a heroin dealer. Of course, they had to be joking, right?

“BITCOIN MAYBE COMING TO A CORRUPT DEMOCRACY NEAR YOU – Soon Richard Burr and America’s heroin dealers will have something in common. Paul Blumenthal: “The digital currency Bitcoin is perhaps best known for its use in buying illegal drugs from online stores like the now-defunct Silk Road.”

According to his office, Burr has no known public statements on bitcoins.

The senator’s spokesman Robert Reid contacted HuffPost Hill to find out why his boss was honored with an association to a heroin dealer. He was told that the connection between senators and heroin dealers was that both would soon be able to accept bitcoins and Sen. Burr was chosen at random.  Reid remarked to The Mirror, “Well, I guess the bright side is we don’t have anything in common with heroin dealers right now.”

HuffPost‘s Washington Bureau Chief Ryan Grim told The Mirror that indeed the spokesman was not pleased: “He was not happy at all! I felt bad, because it’s hard to explain to somebody who isn’t a regular reader of HuffPost Hill that it’s not really that out of the ordinary for a politician to be compared to a heroin dealer in the course of a typical edition of the newsletter. It just wasn’t Richard Burr’s day.”

On that note, Grim reminded me to tell me to sign up for HuffPost Hill!
