New York Democratic Rep. Grace Meng was hit over the head and robbed Tuesday night while walking home from a restaurant in Washington, D.C.

Meng was returning to Eastern Market, where she lives while in the District, when she was hit in the back of the head. The attacker took her purse as she was falling and ran away, according to Meng’s office. The incident took place at 6th Street and Pennsylvania Ave. Southeast.*

“While this was a frightening ordeal, I fortunately was not seriously injured,” Meng said in a statement. “Obviously, things could have been much worse. I thank the U.S. Capitol Police and the District of Columbia Police for responding quickly and professionally.”

According to Meng’s office, her injuries include a bruised chin. She had a CAT scan at George Washington University Hospital.

The incident is under investigation by the U.S. Capitol Police and Metro Police, and no suspects have yet been identified, according to WJLA.

Meng has returned to her normal schedule as of Wednesday evening.
