Pope Francis has reportedly been sneaking out of the Vatican at night to meet with the homeless.

According to a “knowledgable source” who spoke to The Huffington Post, the Swiss guards say that Francis has been quietly leaving the Vatican “dressed as a regular priest, to meet with homeless men and women.”

It’s not the first time he’s been known to sneak out at night and break bread with the poor.

According to the Associated Press, when he was archbishop of Buenos Aires, Francis — then Archbishop Jorge Mario Bergoglio — he would regularly sneak out at night to break bread and sit with the homeless on the street.

Francis’ tenure as pope has included a renewed focus on serving the poor.

The Vatican Almoner, responsible for distributing aid — or alms — to the impoverished, reportedly receives hand-written daily orders from the pope to tend to the faithful who have sent in requests for assistance to Pope Francis.
