WASHINGTON — Hollywood comedian Will Ferrell says first lady Michelle Obama surprised him once by saying, “Bitch, where’s my money?”

But the first lady wasn’t asking for campaign donations, he said. She was quoting the famous “Landlord” video on Ferrell’s Funny or Die website.

In that video, a two-year old girl plays a landlord who swears at her tenant over the rent.

During an appearance in Washington on Tuesday night, Ferrell recalled the first lady once laughing to him about the video.

“One of the highest compliments I’ve ever gotten is — last year, or two years ago — we got to go one of the White House Christmas parties,” Ferrell said. “And we got to sit next to the first lady. And she said, ‘I just have to tell you, me and my staff — this landlord? Oh my gosh. I love that thing.’”

“So she’s sitting with her staff, watching ‘The Landlord.’ And I think she literally said, ‘Bitch, where’s my money?’”

Ferrell recalled telling the story to Adam McKay, the director of the video whose two year old daughter, Pearl, played the part of the vicious landlord. “I immediately called Adam and said,‘you’re not going to believe this.’”

Ferrell was in Washington at the Newseum to promote “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues,” and the museum’s “Anchorman: The Exhibit,” which opened last month.
