An Australian man is facing legal repercussion after he made a video of him riding an emu.

Jack McMillan, of Queensland, made a short 30-second video making fun of Australian stereotypes, in the hopes of it going viral, but now animal rights groups are up in arms.

McMillan opens the video by saying, “What most overseas people get confused about Australia is they think we ride kangaroos to work, but natural fact: we ride emus.”

He then goads an emu, he calls Betsy, while he sits atop of it.

Biosecurity Queensland, a division of the state government, is investigating what legal action they can take against McMillan using Australia’s Animal Care and Protection Act 2001, the Daily Dot reports. McMillan is less than pleased that his joke could potentially earn him a $220,000 fine or two years in jail.

He wrote on a Facebook page, “So it turns out someone thought my video of the emu was that good they rhought they should let the coppas no. Just to clear up if it wasn’t for me that emu would of being  dead right now as it was tangled up in a barb wire fence and I cut it out and made a video.”

Let’s hope this gets overturned and McMillan can go back to his freedom-loving, emu-riding ways.
