On Thursday on CNN, Jake Tapper unveiled PolitiFact’s 2013 “Lie of the Year”: President Barack Obama’s promise that “if you like your health-care plan, you can keep your health-care plan.
This lie was selected by 59 percent of readers polled, and PolitiFact selected it because of its national impact.
The president’s claim, which he used to calm Americans and politicians worried about his health-care takeover, turned out to be false when millions of Americans were dropped from their plans in October by insurance companies. Obama blamed “bad apple insurers” for the drops.
October was the first of many months of trouble for the president’s sweeping overhaul, and with no end in sight, the president and his allies are on the run.
