A police officer in Pleasantville, N.Y. has been suspended after posting a status update attacking President Barack Obama on a private Facebook page.

“The fact that he [Obama] is still alive bewilders me,” Officer Peter Burns wrote in the post, The Journal News reports. “Go die in a shallow grave you Muslim commie…”

The post, described as a “racist, obscenity-laced rant” by the Journal, described the president as “un-American,” referenced “1st amendment NSA,” and contained a racial slur.

“Coon Trapper,” the Facebook page visible only to Burns’ friends through Facebook’s privacy settings, was taken down Tuesday. The officer was identified through pictures he posted of himself in hunting gear.

Burns’ boss, Pleasantville Police Chief Richard Love, announced Tuesday that the officer was suspended with pay and that, “the police department will consider all legal options, including the possibility of commencing disciplinary proceedings against the police officer which could lead to his dismissal.”

Love said the statements were despicable and “are totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”
