Student pranks local news by giving name meaning ‘Father of a Whore’ in Arabic

A University of Houston Student had some fun with Houston’s ABC 13 Eyewitness News this week when he gave his name as “Abu Sharmouta,” which is Arabic for “Father of a whore.”

The fun begins about 45 seconds into the video when the student makes his first of a few appearances.

With the name “Abu Sharmouta” splashed in big, black letters across the bottom of the screen, the backpack-clad student proceeds to provide a serious account of his experience while he was held at gunpoint. (It’s not clear how much of the account is factual.)

While The Daily Caller speaks very limited Arabic, the guy appears to be University of Houston student Sayed Jamal Hamideh. On Twitter, where his handle is @ThatPancakeKid, he describes himself as:

1st Grade Math Bowl Champion, 4 Time IHOP Employee of the week, I like chicken, cropdusting peoples on the daily. The one and only… #AbuSharmouta

Houston, Texas

To judge from a cursory reading of the @ThatPancakeKid account, the prank was a huge hit.

For example, a Twitter user named Amir tweeted the world to say that Hamideh is “now a celebrity in the Arab community. Even my parents heard about him.”
