Congresswoman spends the night in a homeless shelter… Read the HuffPost story here.

Women aren’t the only ones sexually victimized in the military…apparently it’s quite a problem with men too. Ex-Politico scribe Steve Friess, now freelance and journalism instructor at Michigan State University, writes the piece for TakePart, a longform non-profit web magazine funded by Participant Media, the studio behind An Inconvenient Truth, Food Inc and Lincoln, among others. An excerpt involves a Navy veteran who was raped by a superior and forced to return to sea after the assault. He later testified before Congress: “And so, until 2013, until Senator Gillibrand called forward this baby-faced man with sad eyes barely hiding a trauma on endless loop in his mind, not a single male victim of sexual assault in the military, of which there had been hundreds of thousands, had ever appeared before Congress.” Read here.

A woman is allegedly raped… Weeks later, her purported rapist turns up dead and the woman faces life in prison. Read the whole story by Emily Bazelon in Slate. It’s better than an episode of Law and Order SVU.

The new San Diego mayor has apparently never sexually harassed anyone, but he does have guinea pigs…See Politico‘s “10 Things” about GOP City Councilman Kevin Faulconer here. The story is interesting, but the new mayor will likely never be as colorful a subject as ex-San Diego Mayor Bob Filner, who harassed a number of women and wound up sentenced to three months of house arrest and three years of probation. Among the more ridiculous things he did: He put a woman in a headlock and grabbed another’s buttocks.
