Woman jailed for renting and never returning ‘Monster in Law’ — NINE YEARS AGO

A South Carolina woman was arrested last week for renting the Jennifer Lopez/Jane Fonda “comedy” “Monster in Law” and never returning it. The biggest crime here, obviously, was that she rented “Monster in Law” in the first place.

Kayla Finley, 27, rented the VHS tape nine years ago at Dalton Video in Pickens, S.C., according to Fox Carolina. The movie was a 72-hour rental, but she kept it for nine years, or 78,892 hours.

Dalton Video, which is no longer in business, sent Finley 15 warning letters to return the tape, but she never did. A warrant for her arrest was issued in September 2005 and after evading the police for nearly a decade, the long arm of the law finally caught up to her.

For the record, “Monster in Law” earned just 16 percent favorable reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and is so bad that my roommate (whose favorite TV show is “Vanderpump Rules”) won’t even watch it. Plus, VHS is now a relic as ancient as the cordless phone or a chivalrous gentleman. They just don’t exist.

The moral of the story: Beware Jennifer Lopez comedies.
