Breitbart party suddenly proclaimed ‘off record’ and ‘just a good hang’

Inviting a bunch of reporters to a party and insisting that it’s off-the-record is a little like inviting a starving man to a feast and saying, “Don’t touch the food!” It’s not like there’s going to be a room full of people who report things for a living or partygoers who can and will dish dirt.

Nevertheless, the call has come down from on high through party organizer Jon David Kahn, the “Minister of Culture” over at Breitbart. In an email Friday afternoon, he warned that tonight’s “Breitbart Speakeasy” CPAC party at The Embassy on Capitol Hill is not to be reported. The invitation never included the party rule.

My favorite part is the second line of the mandate.

“Betsy, Party is off the record. Just a good hang.”

Remember that time in 2010 when party and PR maven Tammy Haddad tried to declare a birthday party for NBC’s Betsy Fischer Martin off the record? In a word: Disaster. The order angered reporters who’d been invited to the party presuming to cover it for their publications and everything came spilling out fast.

Enjoy the festivities!
