Simon & Garfunkel’s classic “The Sound of Silence” was released fifty years ago today.

Paul and Art wrote the song after JFK’s assassination the previous November.

Here is the original, acoustic recording from “Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M” and before the song was dubbed over with the electric guitar, electric bass and drums without Simon and Garfunkel’s knowledge.

The more popular, higher tempo version of the song was released in November 1965 and included on their album “Sounds of Silence” and in “The Graduate” soundtrack.
