Recent advances in drone technology made it possible for this drone to fly into the rim of an active volcano in Vanuatu and capture some amazing footage — all while dodging volcanic ejections of more than 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit.

Drone operator Shaun O’Callaghan flew the DJI Phantom 2 quadcopter into the Yasur Volcano on Tanna Island, located off the coast of Australia, and posted the video to his YouTube channel.
Before drones, it would be almost impossible to shoot a video like this, with the high heat from active lava vents preventing low-flying aircraft like helicopters from getting anywhere near as close.
