NBC’s Luke Russert pops the question

“HE SAID YESSSSS,” shouted NBC congressional correspondent Luke Russert from the rooftops of the Capitol late Tuesday night as Capitol Police escorted him from the premises.

Once they learned who he was, they let him dance around the Capitol Rotunda to Footloose music.

Luke’s high spirits stemmed from a romantic dinner earlier in the evening at the Capital Grille in which he bent down on one knee and proposed marriage to his longtime BFF Politico‘s Jake Sherman. Everyone thought they were longtime friends. Few knew they were more. And the whole thing only came about recently as they read last Sunday’s NYT magazine cover story on bisexuality and realized they could explore their feelings.

When you know you know, right?

Things will move fast. The nuptials will be handled by Politico‘s Mike Allen, who officiated at the wedding of NYT‘s Jonathan Martin and NBC’s Betsy Fischer. Allen will feature Russert-Sherman in Politico Playbook as well as Open Mike. No doubt NBC newsman Tom Brokaw will attend, along with other Washington bigwigs such as James Carville and wife Mary Matalin.

The couple plans to create a children’s book series. We hear running around and reporting on the activities of frogs and shit will be involved.

The only thing that could possible tear the couple apart is where they’ll go on their honeymoon. While Sherman wants to head out to Arizona’s desert for a Phish concert, Luke wants to chill in his hometown of Buffalo.

We’re sure they’ll sort out the honeymoon details, realizing their love is what is most important.
