Long shot Iowa Senate hopeful Bob Quast is out with an amusing new ad in which he champions the Second Amendment, threatens to “blow [somebody’s] balls off,” and takes jabs at likely Democratic nominee Rep. Bruce Braley and current Republican frontrunner state Sen. Jodi Ernst.

In the ad, titled “#GotBalls? Vote for Bob Quast,” Quast calls for an amendment to the constitution that term limits members of Congress, and then segues into his support for gun rights.

“If you are the sexual predator and sociopath who murdered my sister Lynette, and you come to my front door to hurt my girls, I’m gonna use my glock to blow your balls off,” he says, holding a gun. Quast’s sister, Lynette Quast Craft, was murdered and dismembered by her husband in 1999. Quast knocks Braley for wanting to restrict gun rights.

“Now please do not confuse me with Iowa’s Republican candidate for US Senate,” he says, as he flips out a knife, and a squealing pig flashes across the screen, a reference to Ernst’s attention getting ad about how she grew up castrating hogs.

“Congressman Braley, you have nothing to fear, as we are friendly folks here in Iowa,” he adds, holding up the knife in one hand and the gun in the other.

Quast asks Braley for a public debate. “I will leave my gun at home, Jodi can leave her knife on the farm, as long as you agree to leave your elite law degree in DC,” Quast goes on, jabbing at Braley’s much maligned comment in which he derisively referred to Iowa Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley as just a “farmer from Iowa who never went to law school.”

The ad urges people to write in Quast’s name when they vote in the June 3 Democratic primary.

Quast, Braley, and Ernst are vying for the Senate seat currently held by Democratic Sen. Tom Harkin, who is retiring at the end of this term.
