Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Rep. Steve Israel called Republican voters racist Sunday. He is the fourth senior Democrat to call the GOP racist in the past week.
His comments were prompted by CNN host Candy Crowley asking if he agreed with top Democrats attacking Republicans as racist in the previous week. “To a significant extent, the Republican base does have elements that are animated by racism,” Israel said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
“That’s unfortunate,” he added.
Amid the increasing chance that Republicans will win the Senate in 2014, Democrats have seemingly pulled out all the stops, whipping up racism as a political tool to try to stem their electoral losses.
“It looks very much like election-year strategy, trying to get your base out,” Crowley commented.
