The C Word: Racist Clippers Owner Has Cancer

Donald Sterling, who was recently banned for life from the NBA for racist remarks he made on tape, reportedly has been battling cancer for years.

Sources reportedly close to Sterling told the New York Post, “They thought he would die two years ago. People have been predicting his imminent demise. I’m sure he has the best … drugs money can buy. He can do anything to keep himself alive.” It’s rumored that he’s battling prostate cancer.

That would be an ironic twist of fate since in 2004 Sterling refused to pay for Clippers then-assistant coach Kim Hughes’ surgery for prostate cancer.

Hughes said in a 2011 interview, “I contacted the Clippers about medical coverage and they said the surgery wouldn’t be covered. They said if they did it for one person, they’d have to do it for everybody else.”

Four Clippers players ended up ponying up the $70,000 for Hughes’ surgery.
