Last year at this time, the world lost Adam “MCA” Yauch to cancer. Yauch was the member of the Beastie Boys who penned a number of legendary lyrics, including:

Now my name is MCA, I’ve got a license to kill

I think you know what time it is, it’s time to get ill

Now what do we have here an outlaw and his beer

I run this land, you understand I make myself clear

In honor of MCA’s epic rhyme-busting, four dudes dressed as Buddhist monks took to New York City’ Union Square to pay tribute to him with – what else? – a very impressively freestyle breakdancing routine.

The breakdancing spectacle occurred on May 3, which is now officially MCA Day in New York City. MCA Day honors the late, great rapper for his poetic abilities and for his decades-long promotion of Tibetan independence.

Yauch was a devout and practicing Tibetan Buddhist.
