Irish golf star Rory McIlroy may have wanted to make up his about the whole marriage thing a little earlier. After he and his fiancee, Danish tennis star Caroline Wozniacki, sent out wedding invitations during the weekend, he decided to call off the marriage on Wednesday.

They’ve been dating for two years and announced their engagement on New Years Eve, reports BBC. McIlroy explained his cold feet, saying, “The problem is mine. The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realize that I wasn’t ready for all that marriage entails.”

It seems that it’s not just the marriage that is ending, but the whole relationship as well. McIlroy said in a statement, “There is no right way to end a relationship that has been so important to two people. I wish Caroline all the happiness she deserves and thank her for the great times we have had.”

McIlroy won the US Open in 2011 and the PGA Championship in 2012. Wozniacki is currently ranked 13th in the world for women’s tennis.
