In a recent interview with Britain’s Sky News, Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron boldly likened invasive paparazzi coverage of her personal life to rape.

The South African stunner, who is dating actor Sean Penn, emphasized her concern about photographers targeting her two-year-old son Jackson.

As expected, Theron’s interview generated an incredible amount of outcry on social media. Posters mocked Theron for complaining about her Hollywood lifestyle and criticized the actress’ comments as insensitive to rape victims. Ironically, Theron has supported campaigns focused on raising awareness about rape and sexual violence.

Theron is currently promoting a new movie but does not seem concerned that her comments will lead to a negative impact at the box office. She has yet to acknowledge the social media outcry or apologize for her remarks.

Perhaps Theron could ask Gwyneth Paltrow for advice about how to respond. Paltrow came under fire last week when she compared dealing with scrutiny from Internet users to fighting in war.
