A man went for a terrifying ride when an elevator malfunctioned, BreakingNews.ie reports.

Jose Vergara Acevedo entered the elevator on the first floor of the Bustamante Park building in Providencia, Chile. The moment he presses the button for his floor, things go horribly wrong.

Seconds after he hits the button, the elevator begins to rise while the doors are still closing. The doors only stay shut for a moment before opening again. The elevator shoots upward, ascending 30 floors in 15 seconds at close to 50 mph.

The poor man can be seen frantically pressing buttons in an attempt to slow the elevator down. It then violently crashes into the roof of the building after reaching the 31st story. Acevedo suffered serious head and leg injuries and is recovering in the hospital.
