In an embarrassing goof-up on Monday, South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley accidentally declared over Twitter that the state would no longer be educating children.

The governor isn’t revealing a hidden masterplan to leave the state’s children in ignorance. Rather, the mistake was caused by Haley’s Twitter feed linking to an image on the website Instagram and having the image’s caption on that site serve as the text of the tweet.

With Twitter’s 140-character limit, the text cut off at the most inopportune moment. The full caption from Instagram intended to say that the state would “no longer educate children based on where they are born.”

South Carolina has passed several education-related bills this year. Most recently, Haley signed a bill that aims to have the state pull out of the Common Core multi-state educational standards that have recently become objects of scorn on the right. The state has also approved additional charter schools and will invest more resources in four-year-old kindergarten and making sure students can read by the end of the third grade.
