MSNBC host Joe Scarborough attacked former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Tuesday morning for failing to get her story straight about defending a child rapist in the mid-70’s, when “[She] also suggested she knew he was lying because he passed a polygraph test.”

“Morning Joe” aired a clip of Hillary claiming in an interview that she didn’t want to defend the man: “I asked to be relieved of that responsibility, but I was not. I had a professional duty to represent my client to the best of my ability.”

But in separate audio, first published by the Free Beacon, Hillary contradicts herself, saying, “The prosecutor called me a few years ago, he said he had a guy who had been accused of rape, and the guy wanted a woman lawyer. Would I do it as a favor for him?” Hillary did end up representing the man, and was successful in getting him a plea deal where he only had to spend two months in jail.

Scarborough quickly jumped in, making fun of Hillary’s struggling book tour. “It’s certainly troubling too, not just because of what happened so many years ago, but because, Mark Halperin, because of what happened on this tortured book tour that continues.” (RELATED: Hillary’s Book Loses #1 Spot On NYT Bestseller’s List To A Book Slamming Her)

He then took a shot at Ezra Klein, editor-in-chief of Vox.com, who “said that the girl was 15 years old.”

“She was not,” Scarborough corrected. “She was 12 years old.” An article on Vox.com still has her age incorrectly listed as 15.

Scarborough turned on Hillary again, berating her attempt at sounding like someone who didn’t have a choice. “Secondly, Hillary Clinton, we ran that clip where the suggestion was she was court appointed, she had no choice but to take this. Very clearly her own words from the Times said that she did it as a favor for a friend.”

“Hillary Clinton chose to do this,” he snapped. “This completely changes the conversation.”

Scarborough pointed out that many other female lawyers would not take the case. “And furthermore, I’m sure they wouldn’t brag about getting this child rapist a plea deal,” he said. “[She] also suggested she knew he was lying because he passed a polygraph test.”

“This is really troubling Mark, on many layers.”
