Open Road Films just released the first trailer for the film “Nightcrawler” starring Jake Gyllenhaal, and it’s… not what anyone thought it was.

The Internet went into a frenzy Wednesday upon launching the dark, gritty trailer, and waited expectantly for the first glimpse of a costumed, blue-faced , CGI-tailed, elf-like Gyllenhaal performing incredible feats of acrobatics and teleporting fists and feet into the faces of evil mutants everywhere.

That isn’t what they got.

“Why was I expecting mad acrobatic skills and BAMFs?” one YouTube user commented, referring to the infamous comic-book onomatopoeia of Marvel’s favorite teleporting dark elf.

“We all were, believe me,” another responded.

The film actually follows Gyllenhaal as a freelance crime journalist who covers L.A.’s gritty nightlife with a camera and a sports car… and wishes he were as cool as the mutant X-Man of the same name.

“I was expecting a blue elf who could teleport short distances…” another YouTuber wrote.

“Hey that’s not Kurt Wagner,” a Facebook post reported.

“I only care if it’s about the X-Men,” another responded.

“Terrible comic book adaption!” was the comment that summed up the others best, though they go on, and on.

For the record, the film doesn’t look bad, but as one Twitter user pointed out, Internet nerds everywhere may hold their disappointment over the name against it.

“I’m surprised Twitter isn’t all aflutter over Jake Gyllenhaal as Nightcrawler oh… it’s not a movie about the X-Man… #backawayslowly”
