If MSNBC “Hardball” host Chris Matthews was watching “Morning Joe” this morning, he must have had smoke coming out of his ears as his colleague Joe Scarborough made him the butt of a joke.

On the program was Washington Post‘s David Ignatius, who was interviewing Dr. Dore Gold, senior advisor to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. After Ignatius asked his question, the show suddenly had technological difficulties, which Scarborough promptly blamed on an infamous employee named “TJ.” At which point Ignatius began contemplating answering his own question.

“You want to answer the question you asked?” asked Scarborough incredulously. “It’ll feel like Hardball!”

“Now, now,” fake scolded Ignatius.

Post mocking, Scarborough quickly walked back his jab: “I love Chris Matthews. It’s a great show.”
