Redundant? Alarm Clock Wakes You Up By Brewing Coffee

A British innovator just came up with a fantastic idea: what if we could wake up to the smell of coffee? Why not make an alarm clock that also brews coffee while you sleep?

The Barisieur does just that — the clock uses bearing balls to boil water by induction heating, then brews you a pour-over cup of joe to start your day. The best part is, there’s no harsh ringing in your ears — the alarm, literally, is the smell of coffee.

Unfortunately, the British developer Josh Renouf is still putting the finishing touches on the product, so the Barisieur isn’t officially for sale yet. There is a price tag on the alarm clock-turned-coffeemaker, though: right now, the website says it will be somewhere between $250-$420.

So is the alarm clock worth it? After all, most coffeemakers already come with a timer — you just press a button, set a time the night before, and your coffee is ready for you in the morning. The only difference with this alarm clock is that you put it by your bed, which poses potential hazards. If you like to smack your alarm clock in the morning, you’ll be in for a rude surprise when you whack this thing.
