The New York Daily News is out with a new report: Microsoft is in talks to build a store on Fifth Ave — just a hop, skip, and a jump away from Apple’s glass cube of famed tech goods.
Retail broker Faith Hope Consolo told The Daily News that a Microsoft store so close to Apple would create “drama.”
Apparently, Microsoft has a history of following Apple around. When Apple opened a location in Palo Alto, for example, Microsoft immediately opened their own location right next door and celebrated their grand opening with a free Maroon 5 concert, according to TechCrunch.
In 2012, Microsoft set up shop in Times Square, but only for a short period of time. Now it seems Microsoft plans to create an official NYC base — right next to Apple, where Microsoft can keep a very close eye on the competition.
