Democratic Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes is shooting guns again in an effort to distance herself from the president, as she battles Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell for the Kentucky seat.(RELATED: McConnell Vs. Grimes: The Tortoise And The Hair)

In a 30-second TV spot airing statewide Monday, Grimes loads and fires a shotgun on a number of clay birds as she explains why she’s different from the president and mocks McConnell. It’s unclear how many of the clay birds she hits. (RELATED: Obama Says He Goes Skeet Shooting ‘All The Time’)

“Mitch McConnell wants you to think I’m Barack Obama,” she says. “Mitch is the same guy who thought Duke basketball players were UK, or who’s attacking me on coal after doing next to nothing while we’ve lost thousands of coal jobs. He’s even said it’s not his job to bring jobs to Kentucky.”

“I’m not Barack Obama,” she continues. “I disagree with him on guns, coal, and the EPA.”

“And Mitch, that’s not how you hold a gun,” she says as the camera switches to this picture:

Last November, Grimes tweeted a picture of herself in a tank top shooting a gun, and invited McConnell to join her whenever he’s “not busy pandering to DC lobbyists.”

She was criticized for not wearing eye or ear protection in the photo, and some Republicans called it a campaign stunt.

In the new ad, Grimes is wearing both forms of protection.

A September NBC News poll showed McConnell up eight points. The current RealClearPolitics polling average shows McConnell with a five-point lead in the race.
