A Thai woman opted to commit suicide in a horrifying way on Friday: throwing herself into a pit full of hundreds of crocodiles.
The family of 65-year old Wanpen Inyai has confirmed that she had been depressed and hadn’t spoken to anyone for some days before her suicide, The Bangkok Post reports. They are confident her death was voluntary and have not pressed charges against the crocodile farm where the incident occurred.
The pit at Samut Prakarn Crocodile Farm & Zoo contains one thousand crocodiles. Zoo staff tried to rescue her by keeping the reptiles away with sticks, but they were ultimately unsuccessful.
Witnesses state that the woman removed her shoes before jumping into the pit.
The woman was identified when an ID card floated to the surface of the water, and DNA tests of tissue fragments found by police at the scene.
