The leader of the Church of England has just admitted to having doubts about God’s existence, The Independent reports.

“There are moments where you think is there a God? Where is God?”

Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby has said in a recent BBC interview that he still doubts the existence of God on occasion, and that on a recent run with his dog he had wondered why God hadn’t acted to stop injustice in the world.”This is all very well but isn’t it about time you did something, if you’re there,” Welby said, then remarked that this was “probably not what the Archbishop of Canterbury should say.”

The Archbishop went on to cite Psalm 88 and other parts of the Bible as “full of doubt.”

He defended his strange comments, saying: “It is not about feelings, it is about the fact that God is faithful and the extraordinary thing about being a Christian is that God is faithful when we are not.”

According to Church of England statistics, only 1.7 million people participate in a church service every month, or a little over 3% of England’s population.
