Apple customers stood in endless lines this weekend to make record iPhone sales. Apple sold over a record 10 million iPhone 6 and 6 Plus’s in three days. The larger and more expensive iPhone is the fastest selling hand held device in 2014.

On the first day Apple sold four million iPhone 6 units, and iPhone sales continued in consistency as the lines remained continuous throughout the weekend. Apple managed to keep up with the high demand, although they were still working to supply orders, according to Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook.

“Sales for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus exceeded our expectations for the launch weekend, and we couldn’t be happier,” said Cook. “We would like to thank all of our customers for making this our best launch ever, shattering all previous sell-through records by a large margin. While our team managed the manufacturing ramp better than ever before, we could have sold many more iPhones with greater supply and we are working hard to fill orders as quickly as possible.”

Apple’s new personal best may be due to the larger screens. The two new models provide consumers the choice between a 4.7-inch iPhone 6 or a 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus. An online survey reveals that 51 percent of consumers are looking to purchase a “phablet” for their next smartphone.  A “phablet” is a smartphone that’s screen size ranges between 5- to -7 inches, according to an online survey conducted by Accenture Digital Consumer Tech Survey 2014.

Apple’s record-breaking sales may prove that “phablets” are the next big thing.
