The Male Senator Squeezer: Revealed

That dirty, dirty dog (the senator, not the reporter).

NYT’s Carl Hulse reveals the older senator who Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) recently claimed squeezed her waist and said, “Don’t lose too much weight now. I like my girls chubby.”

Sadly, it’s the late Sen. Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii), who can’t be here to defend himself. He died in 2012. He was 88. The senator is a decorated war veteran — he lost much of his right arm in Italy in 1945 and was a medical volunteer at Pearl Harbor.

The brief story conjures an ugly chapter in his life in 1992 when the senator’s hairdresser accused him of forcing her to have sex (which, of course, is called rape in most societies). There were apparently nine other harassed women who wouldn’t talk. Noteworthy: his Wikipedia profile contains no info about the sexual harassment allegations from his 1992 campaign.

The sourcing that Inouye was the squeezer?

“according to people with knowledge of the incident.”

CorrectionThe Mirror incorrectly stated that Inouye lost his arm at Pearl Harbor. Rather, he lost it in Italy in 1945, reflected in the changed copy above.
