A friend of captured British journalist David Cantlie has posted a photo of Cantlie on Imgur in order to present a more dignified image of the man than the media photos that depict him in captivity in Syria.
Cantlie, who was captured in Syria in 2012, has been featured in multiple ISIS propaganda videos in which he is forced to condemn the British government and U.S.-led military campaigns in the Middle East.
“My friend is being held hostage by ISIS,” the anonymous friend wrote on Imgur. “The press keeps using crap photos of him in an orange jumpsuit. I’m putting this photo I took of him out there to show the real John Cantlie. A good man.”
“This photo is released for use by press to show John as he really is, instead of the horrid orange-jumpsuit photos the press keeps using,” the friend added.
