Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said Citizens United is the worst ruling issued by this Supreme Court, and the first decision she would overrule given the chance.

“I think the notion that we have all the democracy that money can buy strays so far from what our democracy is supposed to be,” Ginsburg told The New Republic in an interview. “So that’s number one on my list [of rulings to overturn].”

In the 2010 Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission ruling, the court struck down restrictions on when corporations and unions can spend money on elections. The court’s decision last year to strike down a section of the Voting Rights Act also made Ginsburg’s list — that section would have forced certain states to get approval before making changes to voting laws.

Ginsburg said both decisions were an unwarranted interference with the legislative branch’s power. (RELATED: Senate Dems Want To Amend The Constitution To Stop Koch Brother’s Ads)

“Legislators know much more about elections than the Court does,” she said. “And the same was true of Citizens United. I think members of the legislature, people who have to run for office, know the connection between money and influence on what laws get passed.”

Previous Supreme Courts have issued rulings upholding slavery, racial segregation and the internment of Japanese-Americans during World War II.

Ginsburg, also known on the Internet as NOTORIOUS R.B.G., has served on the court 21 years and is beloved by progressives. She was appointed by President Bill Clinton. But some have criticized her decision to not to retire before the midterm elections, when President Barack Obama would be more likely to successfully appoint what they deem a suitable successor.

“As long as I can do the job full steam, I will stay here,” she reiterated in the interview.
