Neither have officially announced, but this we know: Rand Paul and Ted Cruz are both planning to run for president in 2016.

Aides to both Republicans have admitted as much in recent profiles of their bosses:

“Unless Kelley says no, he’s running,” Paul aide Doug Stafford told the New Yorker in a profile published Monday. Kelley is Paul’s wife.

Speaking to National Journal in a story Monday, a Cruz adviser said of 2016: “At this point it’s 90/10 he’s in. And honestly, 90 is lowballing it.”

UPDATED: Cruz on Monday released a statement saying he hasn’t decided: “Contrary to media reports this morning, Heidi and I have not made any decisions about political plans past the mid-term elections. Clearly we have an overzealous supporter out there making freelance comments, but to be clear, no decision has been made. Whoever this ‘anonymous advisor’ was, he or she had no authority to speak, and doesn’t know what they’re talking about.”
