Texas Gov. Rick Perry couldn’t help but brag about the security detail at his state’s governor’s mansion after a man with a knife ran through the front door of the White House.
“Speaking of getting knocked down,” Perry said Tuesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” “Let me tell you, Texas governor’s detail, do not try running through the governor’s mansion. Shannon O’Neil, the lady that’s on our detail —”
“She will knock you down,” co-host Joe Scarborough said.
“… Dead down,” the governor added.
Scarborough and co-host Mika Brzezinski also asked the three-term governor extensively about a possible 2016 run, including what he would have done to combat ISIS and how to address the porous US/Mexico border.
“I think America needs a competent leader,” Perry told Brzezinski, noting he believes he and the Texas people believe he is.
“Not in Travis County though,” he said, laughing and poking fun at his recent indictment for abuse of power.
