Somehow the White House Press Office only complains when reporters write details they don’t want out there. But when they write factually incorrect details about what President Obama said that boost him? They’ve got no problem with that at all.

A White House pool report Saturday said Obama has presided over “54 million” new jobs. The report came from a speech he gave at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Award dinner in which he paid tribute to outgoing Attorney General Eric Holder.

White House pooler, WaPo‘s Carol Morello, wrote:

“Obama devoted much of his speech to what has been achieved during his six years in office, starting his list with 54 million new jobs since the recession ended.”

According to the transcript, Obama actually said:

“After the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, our businesses have now created 10 million new jobs over the last 54 months.”

According to a story published last week in WaPo, White House correspondents have been embroiled in a state of disagreement with the White House Press Office as some pool reports have been changed when they don’t quite suit the White House’ publicity needs.
