Josh Marshall, editor-in-chief of the lefty Talking Points Memo, is wondering what the hell Politico was thinking in a story published in the magazine Tuesday. In a harsh essay condemning the Secret Service, Ron Kessler, author of The First Family Detail: Secret Service Agents Reveal the Hidden Lives of the Presidentscalls the culture of the agency “rotten.” He also says President Obama‘s life is in danger.

On Twitter Tuesday night, Marshall asks Politico Magazine’s deputy editor Blake Hounshell, “You really think the last two sentences of this article shd have made it into print?”

Those last two sentences:

For someone who lives on Twitter, Hounshell oddly ignored Marshall.

The online peanut gallery was squarely with Marshall.

  • Anne Jamison (an English prof at the University of Utah): “I am actually completely horrified.”
  • Heisenberg: “Really disgraceful stuff. NYPost-grade. Congratulations, Politico”
  • David Schwartz (a producer at Fox32News): “Second to last sentence, I’m okay with. The last one, I would have edited out.”
