A newly launched ad campaign from the College Republican National Committee urges voters to support Rick Scott in the upcoming Florida gubernatorial race.

However, Democrats have blasted the light-hearted parody as sure-fire evidence of the GOP’s supposed “War on Women.”

Charlotte Alter called the campaign the most sexist Republican ad of the year and proposed that the minds behind it simply don’t understand women, in a piece in Time Magazine.

The Daily Caller reached out to these supposed, sexist Republicans and found that the team who thought up the parody was only comprised of… wait for it… women. Furthermore, the idea quickly garnered support among the majority-female staff over at the CRNC.

“We were never reached for comments, so the [Time article] is incredibly biased,” said Alexandra Smith, the first female chair of the CRNC since its formation in 1892. “We, in the office, like the show and were trying to parody a popular voice among the demographic that we were trying to reach. Our aim is to present political issues in an entertaining, light-hearted way that will promote further discussion among voters.”

Some further digging revealed that the outrage over the ad is not only biased, but also down right hypocritical. A note delivered to the CRNC office from the College Democrats of America implied that Republicans only think women care about political issues if they’re framed in terms of reality shows or other “womenly pursuits.”

Hang on, CDA. Where was this outrage when self-proclaimed “voice of her generation” Lena Dunham released this 2012 ad in support of President Barack Obama?

Dunham’s ad asks women why they would vote for a president who doesn’t approve of the “beautiful, complicated weddings, like the kind we watch on Bravo, or TLC all the time?” Furthermore, the “Girls” star compares voting Democrat to losing one’s virginity, and her first time “was… AMAZING. It was this line in the sand; before I was a girl, now I was a woman.” I guess she can get away with it because she’s not just on TV; she’s on HBO.

The irony of the situation is not lost on Smith: “As someone who has worked in politics for several years, I am personally offended that liberals treat conservative women differently, simply because we don’t adhere to the image of what they think a women should be. The only sexist discrimination I’ve ever experienced comes from Democrats.”
