Appearing on “Morning Joe” Wednesday morning, MSNBC host Chris Matthews thinks depending on how a few Senate races shake out next Tuesday, the GOP could pick up 8-10 seats in the upper chamber of Congress.

Responding to a question from co-host Joe Scarborough if he sees any trend lines with just six days until the elections, Matthews said he’ll be keeping his eyes on Kentucky and New Hampshire, and the performances of challengers Alison Lundergan Grimes and Scott Brown.

“I always tell people … pay attention to 7 o’clock, because if Kentucky comes in too close to call with Alison Grimes and Mitch McConnell, if that’s too close to call, Democrats may not face a blowout here,” said Matthews. “However, if you wait til 8 o’clock and you see that one too close to call with Scott Brown, I gotta tell ya, I think if Scott Brown pulls this upset up there, look out that night.”

“Tuesday night could be the sweep night,” Matthews added. “So I still think it’s a possibility of almost an 8-10 seat pickup on the Republican side.”

“Does that make sense?” co-host Mika Brzezinski asked Scarborough.

“Of course it makes sense, because Chris Matthews said it,” added the former GOP congressman.
