New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is renowned for his heated exchanges with hecklers, and when a heckler interrupted his speech on the two year anniversary of Hurricane Sandy, he brusquely told the man to “sit down and shut up.”

At an event in Belmar, N.J., a man in the front row of the audience started yelling over Christie and held up a large sign criticizing Christie’s handling of Sandy recovery efforts. “I got the picture, thanks,” Christie responded sarcastically. “I read it.”

But when the heckling continued, Christie lit into him. “Listen, you all know me. So if we’re going to get into a debate here today, it’s going to get very interesting and very fun… So I’d be more than happy to have a debate with you anytime you want, guy, because someone like you who doesn’t know a damn thing about what you’re talking about, except to stand up and show off when the cameras are here.” (RELATED: Christie On Ebola Quarantine: ‘Government’s Job’ Is To Protect People)

“I’ve been here when the cameras aren’t here and done the work!” he said to loud applause. “…So turn around, get your fifteen minutes of fame, and then maybe take your jacket off, roll up your sleeves and do something for the people of this state!”

The man continued to shout over Christie’s speech. “You want to have a conversation later, I’m happy to have it, buddy. But until that time, sit down and shut up!” Again, the audience responded with cheers.

As the man was escorted out, Christie got in one last quip. “I’ll tell you, there’s about a thousand things I’ll do tonight; going to dinner with you is about a thousand-and-one.”
