Dan Rather Is Now More Popular Than MSNBC

Font Size:

As of the time of this writing, Dan Rather is still alive. And yesterday, he took a break from his decade-long search for “Lucy Ramirez” to lament what has happened to TV news since he was cast out of it.

Here he is with CNN’s Brian Stelter and some other guy, having a nice little chat about why MSNBC stinks:

Okay, I had to pause this clip and marvel for a minute over Dan Rather advocating a “heaping helping of humility.” Maybe he did learn something from Memogate after all. If he’d been a bit more humble back then, if he had just admitted he got snookered, maybe he’d still be droning on and on at CBS.

While the irrelevant fossil makes a laughable argument for the MSM’s journalistic impartiality, I do agree with him that the failure of MSNBC is less about liberal/conservative than about young/old. When your “news” operation consists of transcribing the Daily Kos to a teleprompter, why would anybody want to watch it? Because they love the sound of Rachel Maddow’s voice?

The people who share MSNBC’s worldview already know what their pundits are going to say. And the people who don’t, well, they have better things to do than watch a bunch of snotty leftist nerds, creeps, and nerdy creeps.

By the way, if you watched this clip and you don’t know what a “sustainability entrepreneur” is, that one’s easy: Who cares?
