Iran has made a successful copy of an American drone, the commander of the aerospace division of Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guard announced on Monday.

The high-tech RQ-170 is one of the most sophisticated spy drones in the United States’ arsenal. One of the drones was captured 140 miles over the Afghan border in Iranian airspace in December 2011, and Iranian scientists began working to reverse-engineering the flier for their own use, Iran’s PressTV reports.

The process of reverse-engineering the aircraft took about two years, and footage of the test flight will be released soon, Brigadier Gen. Amirali Hajizadeh said.

This is not the first time the Islamic Republic has repurposed U.S. technology. In May, Iran announced that it had managed to copy an American Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) that had been designed by Lockheed Martin.
