As speculation of a 2016 presidential run increases, Fox News is reportedly considering dropping former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee as a contributor. Huckabee is currently the host of the weekend show “Huckabee”.

Politico’s Dylan Byers quotes Executive Vice President of Programming Bill Shine as saying, “We are taking a serious look at Governor Huckabee’s recent activity in the political arena and are evaluating his current status. We plan on meeting with him when he returns from his trip overseas.” (RELATED: Fox News Drops Ben Carson Ahead of Presumed 2016 White House Run)

Politico’s report comes only hours after The Washington Post reported that Huckabee is in the midst of “[rebuilding a] political team with eye on another presidential run.” Huckabee told the Post that he began seriously considering a run when he saw polls in Iowa and South Carolina showing him up by double digits over major 2016 contenders: “There were polls done that surprised me and got my attention — and led my friends to urge me to think of this again.”

Indeed, the RealClearAverage of 2016 Republican nomination polls has Huckabee in third overall– ahead of high-profile candidates like Chris Christie, Paul Ryan, and Ted Cruz– and has him as the clear favorite in Iowa.
