Washington’s battles on immigration and Obamacare are coming to a head as government funding expires Dec. 11, increasing talk of a government shutdown.

And according to Fox News political pundit Brit Hume, it won’t matter what the cause of the next government shut down is. The GOP will get all the blame whether they are responsible or not.

Hume made the comments to “Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace Sunday morning.

“If Republicans somehow tie funding of the government to opposition, is it a smart political move or another mistake?” Wallace asked.

“It’s a total blunder to try that, because if the president were to veto the bill, a bill that would keep the government going and there was a shut down, it wouldn’t matter. It never has, what the proximate cause of the shutdown was,” Hume responded.

“It’s an iron rule in Washington exemplified many times, if the government is shuts down, the Republicans get the blame. Not some of the blame, not most of the blame, all of the blame. And one would surmise that they may have learned that by now, the leaders seem to have, but there are some within the House and Senate who still think that kind of brinksmanship might work. I doubt it.”
