John McCain ’16? Breitbart News Sure Thinks So

Breitbart TV must be hallucinating. Hey, when you’re watching that much MSNBC, it can happen. On Wednesday night Breitbart posted a story suggesting that 78-year-old Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) may be seriously pondering a White House run in 2016. He ran a failed campaign against then Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) in 2008.

Enter Breitbart‘s brain on journalism: MSNBC “Hardball” host Chris Matthews asked McCain if he was running again, meaning, of course, for Senate in 2016. But Breitbart somehow misinterpreted the exchange as McCain running for president.

In response to Matthews’ question, McCain replied, “I’m certainly leaning that way.”

And BOOM — you’ve got a EXCLUSIVELY wrong Breitbart story.

After they were called out for it on Twitter, they quickly and quietly as a mouse altered the post with no explanation or correction.

The url speaks volumes:

BEFORE: Their original story (screen grabbed the way it was). See below, where it says he is leaning towards running for president in 2016. The headline was this minus the words “For Senate.” Oh what a difference the dash makes.

And finally, their tweet, which has yet to be surgically amputated:
