Former President George H.W. Bush is spending Christmas in the hospital after reportedly experiencing “shortness of breath,” his spokesman, Jim McGrath, said Thursday.

Bush, 90, was admitted to Houston Methodist Hospital near his home as a precautionary measure on Tuesday, NBC reports.

“President Bush had another terrific day and is in great spirits,” McGarth said, adding that Bush “asked that his sincere wishes for a very Merry Christmas be extended to one and all.”

The 41st president spent two months in the hospital in 2012 because of bronchitis, a fever and a persistent cough. He suffers from Parkinson’s disease and is unable to use his legs, but celebrated his 90th birthday by going skydiving. (RELATED: President George H.W.
